Is Elite Singles legit?
EliteSingles is not just a legitimate dating website. And also one of the most popular dating sites online. Although there have been mixed feelings about EliteSingles recently which you will find out about by reading through the member’s complaints and feedback below.
EliteSingles members complaints and feedback:
- Ben says:
Don’t even think about using these scammers.
I cancelled my Premium account and closed it down 2 months before the renewal date, I suspected that there would be no reminder about the “automatic renewal.” That didn’t stop these fraudsters removing more money from my account without my permission for another 6 months that I didn’t ask for or need. They are now ignoring my emails and there is no number to a phone.
Avoid these criminals.
- Barrington Pamplin says:
Avoid, avoid, avoid!
As others on here have already mentioned very dubious policies about renewal. Tried to cancel my subscription but they still took my money and PayPal was not helpful either. Thinking of cancelling my PayPal account also. Having had six months of very poor service, the messaging system not working, lost messages and constant site faults decided I was better of elsewhere but it proved very difficult to cancel terrible customer service. The worst dating site I have experienced. Wish I could give less than one star.
- Nikky says:
No, it’s dreadful! As a paid for service I expected at least a few matches. I am not sure what criteria they use to match couples but I got random men that could have been pulled out of a lucky dip.
Not cool to fool/charge for an “elite” service that is less than average.
- Paul James says:
After paying for a year, I logged on and cancelled the subscription so that auto renewal would not happen, and then also cancelled it with Paypal. I was supposed to get a confirmation email that “conveniently” never arrived: at the time I didn’t look out for it assuming it was job done.
Now a month after the renewal date I have received a threatening letter demanding 232 EUR (a year’s subscription Plus additional charges and interest). … if I pay through Paypal they want 277 EUR (handling fee)
Unlike some, I haven’t paid it yet, but not sure what to do now other than contact the police and a solicitor.r
Steph commented similar in August …. not sure of the outcome?
All I would say is don’t sign up with this company as this is how they treat paying customers, nothing more than extortion.
If I end up having to pay, I am hoping they lose many customers from this sort of behaviour. Pass on the details of this case and share on Facebook, Twitter …etc, will update again after taking legal advice. Check out productreview.com.au for more of the same.
15/12/17 – ended up paying the £234 to protect my credit rating, for another year I didn’t want and £60 costs on top. Luckily I could afford to do this, but feel sorry for anyone who might end up in the same position.
- Enhey says:
Cry Never mind the false promises re superior matching – you get matches with men who don’t fit the criterion you specified – my gripe is with the automatic renewal of your sub without warning. yes, it’s there in the fine print when you sign that unless you notify them 24 hours before the sub runs out they will automatically renew. But the sub runs for six months and few of us are organised enough to mark that on our calendars. I certainly didn’t and was shocked to find $269 had been taken from my account without warning. If they thought their service was that good or they were ethical and put the customer first they would warn the customer a week before their sub needed so they could make an informed choice. But they don’t. That is how they make their money. By stiffing their customers.
- Ben P says:
I’ve joined a few sites at the same time, and I thought that the concept seemed worth shelling out for – after all, if you have the patience to fill out their extensive questionnaire, you must be serious?
Of the three sites I’ve joined, I’ve had absolutely no success on this one, despite similar successful profiles on the other sites. When I say similar, I had to modify my humour significantly for the ES thought police to approve it. Who is paying here? If I put something inappropriate – isn’t it my own choice?
This is the first site where I felt you’d have to be absolutely ‘desperate’ to decide to join and take it seriously! I question if the whole concept is valid – I mean do they have any empirical evidence, not just theory, that this way of matchmaking works?
The app and website aren’t any superior to other offerings either, in fact, I feel it is much more clunky to use.
I hear concerned parents buy this for their Singleton children – please don’t! It’s poor value for money and doesn’t improve your chances in my experience.
If it was free, I’d say ‘what the hell, can’t hurt’, but as the most expensive mass-market option, avoid it like the plague!
- Snorkyller says:
I’m totally certain that at least 97% of the profiles are fakes, created by Elite Singles! Also, almost ALL activities (connections, visits, messages, smiles, pictures requests, etc) in the web site are also fake, totally simulated by the web site, by computer code. I’m a software developer and I know that this is really easy to do. I really don’t know why and how this company can continue to operate and to steal money from people without any problems. It’s a shame
- Catherine Hubbard says:
Very disappointing! Can’t wait for my subscription to end!
- Sandra Rayne says:
I thought it was me and I was being too fussy. Most of my matches were mega sporty yet I’d put that I like film and music. Total waste of money for me, was waiting for it to finish to explore other options. Then auto renewal kicked in (also had turned it off) and now they want another £150 almost, which I don’t have due to a change in circumstances. They don’t have my new card details, Steph, have they chased you for the money?
- Cris says:
It’s another scam site, barely any responses, seem very generic. Profile photos don’t match sometimes. A very few conversations I had felt as if I was talking with a bot.
- Slippers says:
This dating site is honestly one of the worst ones out there. In fact; if you’ve got £300, or more, to spare .. you can buy their UK domain name! They’re a computer consultancy company based in Berlin who claim to use extensive personality and profile testing to provide the highest level of service to their clients. They may well have a slick website and display ‘Best Dating Website of the Year 2016’, (this logo doesn’t link back to anywhere, isn’t anywhere else on the web and presumably is fictitious); but over a 6 month period, they have proven to be next to useless. If a dating site is going to work, it needs to be both informative and reliable. Dating suggestions seem to bear no relationship to the profiled requirements, in either interests or ambitions and invariably are way off the grid in terms of location. The mobile site is virtually unfathomable with its ridiculous coloured dots. Individuals sign up, send ‘likes’, send ‘smiles’ then won’t respond to any form of contact establishing and suddenly go ‘offline’. Dating sites are for DATING, otherwise, they’d be ‘pen pal’ sites or ‘book review’ sites. I fully understand that there are different angles to this form of introduction but a properly run website would attract genuinely interested people.
P.S. Just read Andrew’s review below and fully agree with all that he has said. Good to read well thought out and constructed comments.
- JC says:
Few good matches, shortest match distance of 50miles and many profiles given were outside that. As I live in the capital city it is really unacceptable to have no local matches. On querying, I was told I was too restrictive. On querying whether my matches were full members I was told no, but I should mail them so they were influenced to become a member – why should I do their job for them???
The same thing with auto-renewal ripped off for another month money, you have to delete your membership to get out of the renewal and why do that during the membership period so you don’t and then get trapped into the renewal. They sent me a mail saying I had renewed and had to cancel 7 days earlier. Of course, no email 14 or 8 days earlier that help you to delete. Rip off rip off rip off. Avoid avoid avoid.
Use tinder. Free and effective.
- R B says:
They don’t deserve any stars.
I wish I had seen this site before they took my money and left me with nothing to show for it.
Avoid at all costs.
- Slidergirl says:
You can’t search. You get matches allocated when the site wants and who they want. Most of the matches aren’t subscribed any more or cyber bot fake profiles. Very expensive 6-month subscription where I might have had about 5 smiles initiated to me, I contacted about 300 men and about 8 responses. It’s a waste of time and money..
- Hger says:
They suck. It is not user-friendly. For my matches, all I get are profiles with no pictures. Already I have been notified that one of my so-called matches is a scammer. What a waste of money. Too late to cancel and get a refund. What’s even worse, is that the company that started this dating site is not even based in America. This dating site pays no attention to what you have asked for distance wise or personality wise. Again, they suck.
- Lynn McKinlay says:
This site is an absolute waste of time. It is very rare to get any matches with a photo. Most of your matches are inactive on the site, therefore, there is complete silence. Hardly anyone responds to your smiles, messages or requests for a photo. I have also been matched with people who want to have children ( I don’t). Save your money!
- Betoy says:
No, Elite Singles is not good at all. I have been in this site for 3 months. I’ve had 3 profile visitors. Received 1 message. Most matches are empty profiles (just basic info. Nothing else, no picture, interests, etc.) I sent “smiles” and messages to every single person en the search section for the age range and the least amount of miles and got not one response. I suspect they are all “ghost accounts” One can tell by the pictures or absence of them. I contacted a man after reading through the whole profile found he left his phone number. He said he didn’t have an account anymore,p. It had been months he had left. I let customer service know that I suspected they didn’t delete old members who had left. They responded that it was up to the customers to delete the account. Really? How is that? Any way. This is a $175 scam!
- Andrew says:
I’m a man in my early 30’s and decided to give this a go. I would say I’m average looking, in good physical shape, have a professional career, own house, car, etc. So without wishing to sound arrogant, I’m not that bad! The only reason I’ve mentioned that is so the review is in context. I opted to buy the 12-month membership, which cost 280 pounds. The prices just seem to be made up on whatever day you buy it – see other reviews for the range of prices people seem to have paid! The thing which really disappoints me is, I thought because of the relatively high cost of membership, people on the site would be “serious” and proactive about finding relationships. It strikes me as something with a load of fake profiles because I’ve messaged over 100 people (as in 100 that Elite said were compatible matches, not just randoms!), and had replies from less than 10. All of the messages I sent were polite, friendly, and relevant to their profile (not just “hi how are you?”). I understand that not everyone will reply but bearing in mind this is supposed to 1. Match you with compatible people who would actually speak with you, 2. Be for people who are seriously looking for relationships, 3. Be for professional people who know how to communicate… it just strikes me as a bit of a scam. I met 1 person from the site recently and we had quite a few dates, but came to the conclusion we were very different, despite being matched with an incredibly high score by Elite. The main thing which disappoints me is the lack of communication from other users. I’ve had people (including female friends) review my profile to make sure I’ve not put something bad and that my pictures are up to scratch! The only conclusion I can come to is that there aren’t many “real” members on the site and that Elite pad it out with fake profiles. I’ve currently got 199 matches, and am speaking to a grand total of 2 of them… absolutely useless. Bear in mind those 199 are the people Elite themselves have matched me on, so presumably people who would actually speak to me!
Oh, and another annoyance is the thing with auto-renewal… you have to create your account and then immediately email customer services to tell them you don’t want it to auto-renew. They said they’d done that but going off other reviews I wouldn’t be surprised if it does auto-renew… I’ll reserve judgement until the time comes.
The absolute smack in the face with this is that I’ve had more – and frankly better – communication with people from the likes of Tinder (yes, Tinder!!) than I have on Elite.
In summary – one of the worst things I’ve spent nearly 300 quid on, still single, 1 date that didn’t work out. Avoid.
If this was a genuine website people would communicate more. They are all apparently there for the same thing (to meet/date people), are paying a premium to do so, and are compatible to a degree due to the way their matching system works. So in my view, something doesn’t add up!
- Funky G says:
They will automatically renew your membership without a notification. I am trying to cancel my membership and they are requesting that I pay a fee for renewing of $134.85. I have attempted twice with 2 different cards and keep getting the same message that “my card information is not valid!” I also think that this is a SCAM and plan on changing my card information as well. I am beyond disgusted with how I was treated.
Don’t even think about wasting your time or money……………………
- Steph says:
The total scam does not use. When I signed up I ticked the box saying that I did not want automatic renewal but according to their ‘customer services’ agent this could not be the case. And from online reviews, I can see this has happened to quite a few other people. Thankfully my credit card expired and they do not have the new one. I am not paying them and have deleted my account, which was a total waste of time in any case. But according to them because I didn’t delete the account on time and they are entitled to my money. I’m waiting to hear if they try to institute legal action. The disgusting website does not use.
- Husky says:
I was on elite singles for 6 months (they auto-renewed me after 3 months). 90% of the profiles are fake or freebie ones with no pictures or the ability to read your messages. In 6 months I met 3 girls, which were probably 3 of about 18 that were actually subscribed and real.
- Pete Bain says:
I opted for a 6 month contract at the cost of £107 (it was cheaper, in the long run, to go for this term,) However the 6 months term had expired and to my horror after the 6 months I was charged an automatic fee of £143.00, they had taken for granted I wished to continue, of course, I had not.
I had used Paypal and whilst I do not blame Paypal for what happened
I feel it would have been a good thing had Paypal contacted me before continuing, thus giving me a choice.
I have been in touch with Elite, but their customer services are AWFUL AND VERY PATRONISING.
I remember when signing up ticking a box to say no to automatic subscriptions, but I can not find my original contract as amazingly the new one has taken pride of place.
I feel they have stolen money from my account.
If you are thinking of joining a singles site, please do your homework, check ALL review sites, and think twice especially if you are thinking of signing up with Elite singles, also they are a German-based website and are not easy to do business with if there is a problem.
- Stanley says:
stay away from this site! No response from any member, matches are not even close to your criteria`s etc.
Biggest scam, just like all dating sites. Taking your money and that’s it. No customer service whatsoever.
DON`T sign up, yo only get ripped off!!!!!
ELITE SINGLES ARE A BAD COMPANY IN MY OPINION.
I will be writing to the BBC (Rip off Britain ) and hopefully, they will look into this company and notify others before they get duped.
- Mirabelle says:
Despite having a Masters degree and lots of interests I was disappointed to find that the men appear to be a bit lacking in the intelligence department! The site chooses your matches and decides whom you would b best attracted to (most of my personality matches, were howlers, which is making me twitch and consider therapy). Elite also seemingly believe that you should be matched with someone the same height as you! So a narcissistic bore who is a tad on the short side is what I’m often being matched with… You are given no more than five new matches a day and most of those are 150+ miles away, with no photo. Therefore you are paying a much larger amount than the average dating site for very little. That said, I have met two men via the site, one from 250 miles away (he was 6ft 3, -he was worth it!)..and one 25 miles away and although I’m still searching, they were genuine enough.
- Dune says:
I just found out that Elite Singles is billing me for over $300 for a new period which I did not want. Apparently, they can and do automatically renew your membership automatically unless you cancel it in the 24 hour period. Here is their response to me “As stated in our Terms and Conditions, “ELITESINGLES renews all paid memberships 24 hours before the expiry of the term of the paid membership.” (see 5.2) and ” ( A ) paid membership must be terminated in writing at the latest 24 hours before the date of your subscription renewal.” (see 5.1b)”
I met some nice people on their web site and did not wish to proceed. So I never had any issues until they automatically renewed me for 6 months!
- Fashion says:
This site is far away from ” Elite” as you can get.
I have joined EliteSingles and have paid £149.70 for a 6 months premium membership (Unlimited communication & Intelligent matchmaking- you get what their computer system thinks is suitable. You are not able to search for any matches on your own, take what is given to you and pay for its basis, no search option what so ever).
This site promised that it has a disproportionate amount of graduate professionals and sophisticated singles, 71% to be precise. Everything about this site would suggest a higher calibre of potential mates, to cut a long story short,(shorter than the 30 mins it took to fill out a multiple choice personality profile before joining).
30 mins of questions asking questions then to be presented with 7 potential matches, none of whom I remotely liked and not in line with what I would look for in a date and make matters worse you can’t specify what you want, it’s all based on your personality and what their algorithm suggests for you.
I was looking forward to meeting sophisticated singles above the average but my matches were carpenters, builders and truck drivers! These matches I was given I would expect to find on match.com.
Once you were presented with totally unsuitable matches you have to wait for 24h for the next set of potentials to be emailed to you.
By day 4 they seemed to have run out of men and I was not given any matches at all.
To add to their choices they offer you a handful of wildcards each day, but unless you are willing to travel across the country for a date you can also rule these ones out.
I’d give Elite Singles 1 star, it’s not Elite, it’s the most expensive at £69.95 (1-month membership Premium light ) and I think totally misleading in its ethos.
Donald says:
Terrible service!!! I should have reviewed before signing up and paying hard earned money for this SCAM! I was matched with 8 people, and I am from Vancouver yet I was matched with people from other provinces, and from the US. No consideration was taken for my criteria and when I requested a refund, I received the same canned responses as noted below. Buyer beware, awful in every way possible. DO NOT USE!!!
EliteSingles Matching Process
The EliteSingles matching process presents you with potential matches based on a combination of the 5 Factor personality questionnaire, and your individual refined search preferences. EliteSingles maintain the highest standards in online dating by manually verifying all profiles, automatically removing inactive members, and proactively removing users EliteSingles suspect are not serious. This means their members have a smooth browsing experience and can focus on dating. Finding likeminded singles that are serious about finding a partner has never been easier.
The EliteSingles personality profile is based on the Big Five Model of Personality psychology. Initially developed in the 1990s, it is one of the most important and renowned concepts in modern psychology. Using the results of five personality dimensions, they are able to identify couples who are particularly compatible with a long and happy relationship together. Then, if the couple’s demographic data and personal preferences are also a match, the two members are suggested to each other.
The demographic data they consider includes gender, age, location, profession, and level of education. Additionally, in order to match personal preferences, they explore various aspects that could be significant for long-term relationship prospects. For instance, they ask “How important is your future partner’s religion?”, “How important is your partner’s level of Education?”, and “Do you want children? “
